Gig economy & HRM: Managing non-traditional employment relationships and freelance workforce in Nashik city

Shinde Suvarna Rahul

This research paper explores the challenges and opportunities for Human Resource Management (HRM) in managing the growing gig economy and freelance workforce in Nashik, India. While the gig economy is a global phenomenon, its dynamics in Tier-2 cities like Nashik, which are becoming hubs for services and startups, remain largely unexamined. This study addresses a significant research gap by investigating the unique HRM practices required to effectively manage non-traditional employment relationships in this specific context. Using a descriptive research design, primary data was collected from a sample of 100 gig workers and HR managers. The study aims to analyze the current state of gig workforce management, identify key challenges such as talent retention and legal compliance, and propose effective strategies. The findings will provide empirical evidence and actionable recommendations for organizations to adapt their HRM functions to the changing nature of work, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship with their freelance talent.
