Workplace diversity and inclusion as strategic HRM tools
Shivani Sood
In contemporary business landscapes, organizations increasingly recognize the importance of workplace diversity and inclusion (D&I) as not merely ethical imperatives but strategic human resource management (HRM) tools that drive innovation, engagement, and competitive advantage. This review explores how D&I initiatives align with strategic HRM to contribute to organizational success. Drawing on a wide spectrum of scholarly literature, the paper critically examines the evolution of diversity and inclusion paradigms, their theoretical underpinnings, implementation strategies, and measurable outcomes. It further assesses the role of leadership, organizational culture, and policy in embedding diversity and inclusion into the strategic fabric of human resources. Despite growing awareness, challenges such as unconscious bias, resistance to change, and tokenism persist. The review concludes with insights into best practices and future directions for leveraging D&I as a sustained strategic advantage in human capital management.
