Employee well-being and mental health management: Trends and best practices in HR
Rooppal Kaur
Employee well-being and mental health have become strategic priorities in Human Resource (HR) management, particularly in the wake of growing workplace stress, burnout, and post-pandemic challenges. Organizations are increasingly recognizing the link between mental health, productivity, and long-term success. This research paper explores the latest trends and best practices in mental health management from an HR perspective, using secondary data from global and Indian sources.
Key trends identified include the integration of Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), mental health training for managers, use of digital mental health platforms, and flexible work arrangements. The study also highlights the importance of creating psychologically safe workplaces and reducing stigma through awareness campaigns and inclusive policies.
Best practices analyzed include structured wellness programs, anonymous counseling services, leadership involvement in mental health advocacy, and regular well-being assessments. Challenges such as limited awareness, resistance to policy changes, and lack of mental health resources are also discussed.
The paper concludes that mental health is not merely an HR responsibility but a critical organizational priority. By adopting evidence-based strategies and promoting a supportive culture, HR leaders can enhance employee satisfaction, engagement, and organizational performance.
